What an amazing short story that will take you away to Hawaii. A fast paced story filled with twists and turns that will keep you guessing all the way to the end of the story. I read it all in one sitting because I had to see what would happen next. A very well written story and characters that all work so well together. They will make you feel like you are right there with them in Hawaii. A man found murdered and a missing lei nikon palaoa necklace that should only be worn by royalty. Read the [...]

Good short story, that mystery readers will find enjoyable. McKenna is a private investigator, whose friend Chance wants to follow in the man footsteps. He gets his chance when the two are at the Book and A Latte shop. Ricky Coyne steps in while they are there and the necklace his is wearing, a sacred Hawaiian Niho Palaoa, isn't going to end up getting Mr. Coyne dead and McKenna and Chance on the trail of a killer. This is the first book I've read by this author, but I'm sure not the last, I lov [...]

If you have been to Hawaii, you will welcome this trip back. If you have never been there, you will get a sense of what you are missing. An entertaining, interesting and clever story.

Reviewed by MarissaBook provided by the author for reviewOriginally posted at Romancing the BookWilson McKenna has become one of my favorite characters. He’s a cross between a curmudgeon and a knight, and he’s that cool landlord all us renters wish we had. Being older, he’s not the typical macho hero that settles a problem by swinging his fists – he uses his wits and logic to get what he needs. It’s that logic that’s so crucial to a good mystery and it’s his wit that makes McKenna [...]

Mystery of the Lei Palaoa is set in Waikiki on the Island of O’ahu, an area about two miles from my home. I spend a lot of time down there, walking the beach, attending meetings, watching parades and participating in other events held there. It was fun to picture the locations as they appeared in Terry Ambrose’s latest McKenna Mystery. I had to smile about the price of coffee in the fancy “Book & a Latte” coffee shop, so true. While Mystery of the Lei Palaoa is novella length, it focu [...]

A man enters the shop wearing a shirt demeaning to Hawaiian royalty and a special necklace, a lei palaoa, reserved for royalty. A ruckus ensues and the man is escorted out the door.An hour later, the man is dead and the esteemed necklace is missing. McKenna reports the crime and has a strange dream about the dead man, courtesy of a Hawaiian spirit. According to his [...]

If you haven’t read anything of this series, this short story is a good introduction to this author’s work. A very enjoyable, fast paced short mystery. I read through it in no time and was disappointed it was already over! I look forward to reading more Mr. Ambrose.

Mystery of the Lei PalaoaA great story, twists you don't expect, a dire situation, and kids learning to be adults. One still thinks he can bluff the investigators, another is ahead of the gang and honest. The third, well i'll let you decide.

This book was okay. Based in Hawaii and about a lei which is worn only for Hawaiian tradition. One day a guy came in with one on and he was not of Hawaiian descent and people got mad. Later he ends up dead somehow and the hunt goes on for the killer. What you wll do for strange reasons .

A short read for those who enjoy a quick satisfying book. The setting is in Hawaii and the characters can be found from Terry's previous books. I enjoyed the escapades in the book and it was great to learn new things about the culture in Hawaii.
